I guess that the title of the home page should be changed accordingly.
There are some more occurrences of "Java 6" across the website: It's not yet done. It still runs with Java 6.
See You don't see the message because the osx package does only work with java 7. Any other way to launch josm webstart or jar should trigger the popup with java 6.

In fact I have fixed my download link above to point to a better download page the previous page only let you download Java 8 The new link is oracle. Yes, but Apple has always been very slow with Java updates.
